About California Daycare Centers

California Daycare Centers is an independent guide to licensed child care in California. It is not a government website. We are not the California Department of Social Services, its Community Care Licensing Division or any child care facility, we do not rate or rank providers, and nobody pays to be listed.

Where the data comes from

  • Facilities. 28,188 child care centers and family child care homes with status Licensed or On Probation from the CDSS Care Facility Search data download (November 6, 2026): name, type, facility number, status, capacity, address and phone.
  • Visits and citations. Last visit date, inspection, complaint and total visits and citation counts from the same CDSS data.
  • Programs and TK. From the Legislative Analyst's Office and the California Department of Education, linked in each guide.
  • Locations. Map positions from the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder; centers without an exact match use the ZIP code center, marked "≈".

Privacy of family child care homes

CDSS does not publish home addresses, and we do not either. Homes are listed only by name, ZIP code, phone, capacity and facility number, on city pages, never on pages of their own.

Who we are

The site is edited by Agustín Mendez (Pinamar, Argentina). AI tools help with drafting and data processing; facts are checked against their sources before publishing. Start with the ZIP search or the busiest cities: San Francisco, San Diego, Fresno, Bakersfield, Los Angeles.
