Care for babies is the hardest to find in most California cities. You have two licensed options: an infant center (1,606 in our listings) or a family child care home that takes infants.
Find an opening
- Search your ZIP code on the home page and choose the Infant center filter.
- On a city page, open the Family homes tab: many homes take one or two babies.
- Call early and join several waiting lists.
Questions for infant care
- How many babies does each caregiver look after?
- How do you follow safe sleep practices?
- Can I bring breast milk, and how is it stored?
- How do you share feeding and nap times with parents?
Paying for it
Infant care is usually the most expensive. Check CalWORKs and Alternative Payment programs, and see how prices are measured. Always review the licensing record.
